Edna "Mama" Payne is a character and Martin's mother in the show. She is portrayed by Martin Lawrence. Mama is shrill, extremely frenetic, and a easily excited mother. Mama is insanely over-protective of Martin and dislikes Gina. Mama's mustache was occasionally the subject of a sharp retort by Gina when she and Martin argue.
